Geboren am 24.07.1802 in Villes-Cotterets, gestorben am 05.12.1870 in Puys bei Deppe. Er verlor bereits als Kind seinen Vater, der General bei der Revolutionsarmee war. Er erhielt durch Protektion ein Verwaltungsamt und später eine Bibliothekarstelle beim Herzog von Orléans. Während der Revolution von 1830 war er Offizier der Nationalgarde. Er lebte von 1851-1854 im Exil in Brüssel. Berühmt wurde er mit seinen historischen Abenteuerromanen.
